At a time when star heroes would love to do over the top roles that would satisfy their fans, Balakrishna dared to play a Kuroopi (Ugly Man) in 'Bhairava Dweepam', though his fans didn't like to see him in that getup. He did it just because the story demanded to do so. It shows how dedicated Balakrishna is.
This folklore fantasy film, directed by great director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, completes 22 years today, The film was released on 14th April, 1994. The film was a huge hit then and won prestigious awards.
The film was the second collaboration between Singeetham and Balayya after the path-breaking science fiction movie 'Aditya 369', which was also a huge hit. Roja played the female lead in 'Bhairava Dweepam' and Rambha was seen in the super hit song "Naruda O Naruda. Madhavapeddi Suresh's music album was a major hit.
"Sri Tumbura Narada" song, sung by S.P.Balasubramaniam, was also a huge hit and he even received awards for his great rendition. S.Janaki also won awards for "Naruda O Naruda". Raavi Kondalarao penned the dialogues for this movie, produced by B.Venkatarami Reddy under Chandamama Vijaya Combines banner. Kaikala Satyanarayana, K.R.Vijaya, Vijay Kumar, Babu Mohan etc played key roles in the movie.
The film is one of the most memorable films from Nandamuri Balakrishna, who has many super hits under his belt.
