Varun Tej badly needs a hit now. Though he proved to be a promising young actor, he hasn't tasted a commercial success yet and the actor has pinned hopes on Fidaa. Sekhar Kammula is back with this movie after a brief hiatus and the director also needs a hit to get back to the success track as his previous two films failed at the box-office. Sai Pallavi, who grabbed the attention of everyone as Malar in the sensational Malayalam movie 'Premam', is making her Telugu debut with this movie, produced by Dil Raju under the banner, Sri Venkateswara Creations. Read on to know how the film is.
Varun (Varun Tej)'s family settles in USA. For his brother's matchmaking, he comes to India. Bhanumati (Sai Pallavi) is a Telangana girl with a carefree attitude. Varun's brother likes Bhanumati's sister and as the couple decides to get married, Varun stays back in India. Meanwhile, Varun and Bhanumati fall in love. But Varun has to leave to USA after the marriage. Though Sai Pallavi likes Varun, for some reason she keeps rejecting his proposal to get married. But she accepts the proposal of Harshavardhan and comes to USA. How Varun and Bhanumati meet in USA, how finally Bhanumati accepts the proposal of Varun forms the rest of the story.
Varun Tej looks dapper in the movie and his performance as a cool NRI guy is very good. Sai Pallavi steals the show in many scenes. The beloved Malar, who played a complete contrasting role compared to Premam, is excellent. As a Telangana girl, she is very good and even her dubbing is apt. The other actors perform well.
The songs, especially Oosupodhu, are very good and were shot beautifully. The background score is also good as well. The visuals look pleasant. Varun Tej was styled well. The production values of Sri Venkateswara Creations are good. Sekhar Kammula's screenplay is interesting, though the story is simple. His direction is as usual.
Sai Pallavi's characterization and performance
Sekhar Kammula's screenplay
Slow narration in places
Fidaa is all about beautiful moments and emotions. The story is simple, but Sekhar Kammula does magic with the screenplay, the way he extracts performances from the actors and the music. Sai Pallavi's characterization has been conceived well and she does complete justice to the role. The emotional connect between Bhanumati and her sister is very good. Varun Tej looks at his stylish best in the movie and he is cool. He is very good in the emotional scenes as well as love scenes. It is a very good family entertainer. Sekhar Kammula is back with a beautiful entertainer, which will strike a chord with the youth and family audiences.
Breezy love and family entertainer.
