When everyone was waiting for the decision of Balakrishna regarding his 100th film, he surprised everyone by selecting a historical subject like 'Gautamiputra Satakarni''. The trailer of the movie raised the expectations to the next level and the Krish directorial made much buzz for the release. This movie has been released and read on to find out how the film is.
Satakarni (Balakrishna) is a Satavahana King, who has a dream since his childhood to unite all the small kingdoms in India so that there will no more battles. After he becomes a king, he starts making his dream come true by defeating small kingdoms. He is so determined that he even takes his son to the battle field, though his loving wife doesn't like it. He holds Rajasuyaga for the welfare of people when the question was to whom he should give Agra Thambulam, he says there is no one superior than mother and gives it to her. Then people start calling him Gautamiputra Satakarni. The time comes when Satakarni has to fight against the foreign invaders as the emperor of India. How he wins the battle against all odds forms the rest of the story.
Balakrishna is outstanding in the role of Satakarni. As a son, husband and a father he is excellent. It is his one of the best ever performances of Balayya in his career. Shriya Saran is also superb. She is not only beautiful, but also performs superbly as a helpless wife. Hema Malini gets a good role to play. Kabir Bedi and all the other actors are good.
The output of the film is very good and Krish deserves applause for making a film with a such a quality despite limited budget and time. The music and background score of Chiratan Bhatt are good. Gnanasekhar VS's visuals are brilliant. The dialogues of Saimadhav Burra are excellent and some of them give audience goosebumps. The story, screenplay and direction are very good.
Music and BGM
Some cinematic liberties
Gautamiputra Satakarni is one of the best historical films ever made in Telugu. It's Balakrishna's show all the way and he is excellent. Krish's story and direction are superb. Sai Madhav Burra's dialogues, Shriya Saran's performance, Chirantan Bhatt's music, Gnanasekhar's visuals and everything makes this movie an epic.As the story known about Satakarni is less, Krish has taken some cinematic liberties. The film has all the commercial elements expected from Balakrishna's movie and it will be a Sankranthi gift to fans.
