Kalavathi Movie ReviewApr 21, 2016 06:38 AM
Director Sundar C is back with the sequel to his super hit film ‘Aranmanai’ (Chandrakala) . Kalavathi is a Telugu movie dubbed from Tamil movie ‘Aranmanai 2’ and has hit the theaters today in which Siddharth, Trisha, Hanshika and Poonam Bhajwa are playing the lead role. Let’s see the story line.
Murali (Siddharth) and Anitha (Trisha) who are enjoying in US after getting engaged were forced to return to India after Murali's father falls down from stairs in his mansion and goes into coma.
After reaching their mansion they find out some strange happenings and see someone. In the midst of all this Murali was arrested for murdering his driver.
Anitha's brother Ravi (Sundar C),wild life photographer comes to the mansion to find out the mystery behind the horrific experiences. To find out the mystery he sets up CC cameras in the house to record the movements of invisible force. One day, the force gets recorded. Who is that force? Why she is doing all these things?.
Hanshika has done justification with her role, she appeared in two different shades and became successful to maintain the balance between emotional scenes and horror scenes. Siddhaartha has done good job, he performed well in emotional as well as in romantic scenes.
Sundar C performed well as a person who investigates and solves the problem of ghost.Trisha gave beauty treat and attracts with her performance. Poonam Bajwa acted well as Malayali Nurse. Comedy worked out in bits and pieces with Kovai Sarala leading the pack. Radha Ravi in the role of father and Subbu Panchu as brother performed well. Others performed accordingly.
Director Sundar C came up with fresh story and tried to deliver newness in few scenes but few scenes in the movie are outdated, which audiences have watched number of times in Telugu movies. Hiphop Tamizha's background score is good. Songs are ok. Dialogues are neat and delivered well.
The cinematography work is good which is handled by Senthil Kumar. The movie can be better by chopping few unnecessary scenes. Editing work is done by NB Srikanth, which is not up to the mark. Production values are good.
Plus Points :
Performance of Hanshika & Trisha
Minus Points :
No real twists
The audiences did not get any special and new watchable things in the movie. Director Sundar C tries to maintain the right doses of comedy and horror. The first half of the movie is good and entertaining but the second half of the movie is dragged at certain places that disappointing the audiences.
Sundar C may come with another part of this film as he gave enough hints. Sundar C should think something new as he cannot go on coming with similar routine flicks.
Though Kalavathi doesn’t offer much in the first half of the movie, post interval it sustains some interest with couple of interesting episodes. The film is decent suspense thriller.
