Kanche - An emotional de tour

Apr 21, 2016 11:43 AM Kanche Music Review

Kanche gets a better introduction of itself through the audio more than the trailer. The lyrics by Sirivennela, all songs by him, are welcome - all the more because the need for profundity demanded it.

Abhay Jodhpurkar, Shreya Ghoshal, Shankar Mahadevan and Vijay Prakash render the songs.

Itu Itu Ani Chitikelu Evvarivo

Artist : Abhay Jodhpurkar, Shreya Ghoshal
Lyricist : Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry

The song is unique in that it not laced with high-sounding but the meaning is as much profound as it can get. It is Sirivennela's style of conveying the deepest felt emotions in the most fluid language, regardless of the high-brow setting of the drama. The music director has delineated the feel of the song in a most poetic manner to make sure the lyrical composition gets a fitting treatment. Abhay and Shreya render the song to give it a classic feel.

Ooru Erayyindi

Artist : Shankar Mahadevan
Lyricist : Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry

Shankar Mahadevan returns with a song that suits his vocal genius. The song, in the tradition of folk songs manipulated to elevate the hero's character, makes an impact because of its lyrics. The concept is familiar and the lines themselves are constructed on an edifice of stock words. Chirantan has the knack of using the right instrumentation.

Nijamenani Nammani

Artist : Shreya Ghoshal
Lyricist : Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry

Trust Sirivennela to visit upon a situation a pall of gloom as befitting. Trust Shreya to take pathos to another level with her gifted voice. The song has this combination and the musician is not behind to deliver a rich musical with the right play on instruments. The tune is trance-inducing, something perked up by Shreya's familiar vocals. All in all, a top-notch writing and rendition.

Bhaga Bhagamani

Artist : Vijay Prakash
Lyricist : Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry

Sirivennela's pacifist sympathies come to the fore in this message-oriented song. Vijay Prakash's balladeer-like vocals are apt for a song of this genre and intensity. Although the tuning is not entirely original, Chirantan deserves credit for using the right embellishments. From the word go, it is Srivennela's number all the way. Philosophical and forcefully insightful, the song is clear in its intent.

Raa Mundadugeddam

Artist : Vijay Prakash, Keerthi Sangathia
Lyricist : Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry

This is yet another theme-oriented song trying to deliver a social-political message. As it is, Sirivennela continues his pacifist streak, professing the extinguishing of man-made boundaries. Vijay Prakash yet again proves he is apt for a song baptised in intense emotions. Chirantan in this song displays many musical modulations.

Love is War

Theme Music

It is in the same mould as a theme music for a war film with human emotions must have. The musician shows he understands the emotions to be conveyed and this shows itself.

Verdict

'Kanche' is a different musical affair for sure, separate from the run-of-the-mill Telugu film music. The themes are familiar but the lyrics are extremely meaning-laden. The musician draws his imaginative streak at more places than one, matching the enormity of Kanche's larger-than-life setting.
