'Om Namo Venkatesaya' Movie ReviewMar 02, 2017 04:39 AM
Nagarjuna Akkineni and K Raghavendra Rao proved to be the best combination in recent times when it comes to devotional movies. Their movies like 'Annamayya' and 'Sriramadasu' were highly acclaimed. Though their previous outing 'Shirdi Sai' was not so successful as expected, they teamed up again for the movie 'Om Namo Venkatesaya', which is based on the life of Baba Hathiram, whose story is less known. Sourabh Raj Jain debuts in Telugu with this movie. He plays Lord Venkateswara. Vimala Raman, Ashmitha, Anushka Shetty, Jagapathi Babu, Sai Kumar and others play important roles in this movie. This movie has been released. Read on find out how the film is.
Since his childhood, Ram (Nagarjuna) is very spiritual. In search of God, he comes all the way from North India to Tirupati. He joins an ashram and the guru (Sai Kumar) explains the greatness of Lord Venkateswara. On the advice of the guru, Ram does Tapas for many years and God, in the form of a child, interrupts him. Oblivious to the fact that God himself has interrupted him, Ram scolds and asks the child to go away. Ram reaches home and just when he is about to get married to his maradalu (Pragya Jaiswal), Ram starts to Tirumala once again in search of God. This time he meets a devotee named Krishnamma (Anushka) and under the guidance of her and his guru, Ram decides to put Poojas, the sevas and the everything in order and he has to face some problems. Ram has a dream to play dice with the God since his childhood and impressed by his devotion and work, God himself comes down to earth. What happens after the God starts playing dice with Ram forms the rest of the story.
Sourabh Raj Jain is excellent in the role of Lord Venkateswara. His performance is so good that one gets a feeling no one would have played the role better than him. Nagarjuna once again proves that he is one of the best in playing devotee roles. He is very expressive and gets into the role very well. Anushka Shetty gets a good role to play. Rao Ramesh in a negative role is impressive. Jagapathi Babu and Pragya Jaiswal are good as well.
The visuals are very rich. Cinematographer Gopal Reddy's work is excellent. MM Keeravani's music and background score are very good. Though the story known is very less, JK Bharavi comes up with a very good script and K Raghavendra's direction is brilliant. The veteran director proves that he is the best in Telugu in directing devotional movies.
Nagarjuna and Sourabh Raj Jain's performances
Nijaroopa darshanam sequence
Anushka and Jagapathi Babu's song
'Om Namo Venkatesaya' is well-written and well-made devotional movie. Nagarjuna as Baba Hathiram gives a stunning performance and Sourabh Raj Jain gives complete justice to his role. The scenes between both of them are a treat to watch. The visuals and background score are also highlights of the movie. There are some negatives like the song between Anushka and Jagapathi Babu, which is not at all needed and looks like forced. But the film is a beautiful and if you love devotional movies, you will love this movie.
A beautiful devotional journey
