'Spyder' Movie ReviewOct 13, 2017 04:48 AM
Mahesh Babu has been waiting to work with AR Murugadoss for a long time and the combination has worked out finally. The expectations around 'Spyder' have always been high but the expectations reached another level with the recent promotions by the team. Rakul Preet Singh acted opposite Mahesh, while SJ Suryah and Bharat played the villains. Mahesh has been confident that the film will be a game changer for him as it will also expand his Tamil market. Has the film managed to live up to the expectations ? Read on to know.
Shiva (Mahesh Babu) is a junior Intelligent Bureau Officer. He listens to the phone calls of people and if he senses that someone is in need of help, he immediately reaches out to them. He also overhears Rakul's phone calls and falls in love with her. Meanwhile, a psycho serial killer, Bhairavudu (SJ Suryah), along with his brother is on a rampage in the city. He commits murders one after the other in a shocking way. Shiva decides to nab this serial killer, but it is not an easy job and many challenges await him. There is also an interesting flashback for Bhairavudu and why he turns a serial killer. How Shiva finally gets rid of Bhairavudu ? Watch the film.
Mahesh Babu has once again shown his caliber as an actor. He is simply terrific and has given everything that's required for the movie. What's more interesting is he has completely surrendered to the script and has underplayed his role. Rakul Preet brings in the innocence that's required for the role. She is very beautiful as ever. What's the shocking factor is SJ Suryah's role. The director turned actor was brilliant in the role of a psycho killer. No other actor would have performed the role better than him. Bharat plays a cameo which is very important to the film. Priyadarshi, RJ Balaji and others are OK.
Needless to say, Santosh Sivan has done an outstanding job. The National award winning senior cinematographer captivates the audience with his visuals and presents the vision of AR Murugadoss perfectly. Harris Jayaraj's songs are just about OK but the background score is terrific in crucial episodes. It's not an exaggeration to say that the BGM has taken many scenes to a whole new level. Peter Hein's action episodes are excellent. The chase sequences and the roller coaster episode thrill the audiences. The screenplay has some loopholes, but AR Murugadoss as a director was very good.

Harrish Jayaraj's BGM
Mahesh Babu has given a top-notch performance as an intelligence officer, who helps the needy and who goes all out to get rid of a psycho villain. SJ Surya is outstanding and shows how good an actor he is. Technically, the film is superior. The cinematography is superb. The background score is extraordinary. The script has it's share of flaws. The flashback episode of the villain is very good. But the second half is a little bit let down. On the whole, the film ends up as a good crime thriller.
